What wexclipper is...

Data sharing and the web clipboard

wexclipper is an application for sharing the contents of your clipboard in an easy and quick way.

By pressing a key combination on your keyboard (default: Ctrl-U / Ctrl-D) or by right-clicking the wexclipper icon the current contents of your clipboard are uploaded to or downloaded from http://wexclipper.mickbitsoftware.com/[web-clipboard-name]. Before it works you have to specify a web clipboard name once. Anyone specifying the same name can now use the same web clipboard. The four simple steps are: Copy - Upload - Download - Paste.

Exchange data between Android-Devices and Windows 7 or Windows Vista

The new wexclipper app for Android makes it possible to share your Windows clipboard with Android phones or tablets! This works best with text data. Scan the QR code on this page to get to the wexclipper app.

"Make pastable as"

Image or text data can be converted to pastable files by right-clicking wexclipper's system tray icon (next to the Windows clock in the task bar). It also works the other way around.

The auto upload feature automatically uploads clipboard content without the need for clicking the upload button.

It is also possible to set a password for the web clipboard. Every Web Clipboard name – password combination is treated as unique Web Clipboard. This means that a clipboard named mywebclipboard using the password fzh4 coexists with a Web Clipboard mywebclipboard using the password fzh5.

Bandying (experimental)

Additionally to the data sharing feature wexclipper enables a system-wide key combination (default: Ctrl-B) which makes it possible to swap clipboard data in any application which supports cutting out data by pressing Ctrl-X and pasting data by pressing Ctrl-V.

This function is called bandying: Like a ball on a wall the data “bounces back” into the clipboard. Calling this feature “bandying” explains why Ctrl-B is used for it by default (“B” like in Bandy). And B is next to X, C and V on your keyboard.

Easy to remember!

Example:

“Jessica likes Veronica’s green car” Goal: Exchanging the two names so that Veronica likes Jessica’s green car.
Cut out text “Jessica” (1st key press). Mark text “Veronica”. Press Ctrl-B (2nd key press): “Veronica” is replaced by “Jessica”. At the same time “Veronica” is copied into the clipboard.
“ likes Jessica’s green car”
Now you can paste “Veronica” at the beginning of the text (3rd key press) and get “Veronica likes Jessica’s green car” with just three key presses! (Now try it without bandying!)

Warning: This feature might behave in an unexpected way in certain applications. The feature was designed for text editors where pressing Ctrl-V inserts text at the current cursor position and Ctrl-X leaves the text cursor at the position of the removed text. If the target application needs too much time for writing data to the clipboard or for reading data from the clipboard the feature might behave unexpectedly as well. Therefore do not use bandying with too much data. If you have problems with this function in certain applications do not use it or deactivate the corresponding key combination.

In general it is recommended to configure wexclipper to absorb the key combinations.

What wexclipper is not...

A classic file hosting service. The data you upload will only be available for approximately 24 hours.

With wexclipper you cannot share large amounts of data. Uploading images, some pages of text or some files (up to five megabytes) will work though.

Uploading data to the web clipboard is not secure! The connection will not be encrypted and anyone who knows the name of the web clipboard (or anyone who guesses it) can access the data you have uploaded! So do not upload confidential data to the web clipboard!
